Personal Website: ModeInStyle

Founding Creative Director of ModeInStyle & “Best Stylist of San Francisco 2008”, Val Cunningham has always had a true passion for fashion and a keen eye for design. While still school, she began editing closets and creating fabulous outfits for friends and family.
After studying fashion forecasting, show production, visual merchandising, image consulting and styling, she started her own company ‘ModeInStyle’ in 2005. Since then, she has traveled all over the world researching street styles, fashion trends, and designers.  Her career as a professional Ballroom and Latin dancer for over 10 years is the basis for her heightened awareness of the body and it’s way with lines, how fabrics drape on every different silhouette and her amazing aesthetic to treat outfit like a costume, creating it with finesse and beauty.

In her successful career as a commercial fashion stylist and personal image consultant, she has spent many years sculpting people’s bodies with fabrics and styles, which create gorgeous outfits and images.  She is hired for her eye – an ability to distill what she sees on the runways, on the street, in films and in magazines, translating trends into clothing and accessory options for each client’s personal style.

She started her company “ModeInStyle” to help people cure their closets and simplify their lives.  Years of personal experience coupled with formal training have developed Val’s approach.  She believes that you can and should achieve a flattering and stylish look, stress free.  Val believes you can have a versatile and modern wardrobe by building on your existing pieces and without spending a large amount chasing after seasonal trends.  Her philosophy is the:  By adding just a few key pieces and deleting a few unfortunate choices, you can turn your closet from a cluttered disappointment into a trove of stylish possibilities.

Val has first hand experience working closely and effectively with Art Directors, Photographers, Hair and Makeup Stylists, in the development, presentation and pitching of successful story ideas.  Val has styled for department stores such as Macy’s and Sak’s 5thAve, for Fashion houses such as Ralph Lauren and Jones of New York, for Dance Centers such as Fort Mason and Yerba Buena center for the arts and for numerous business professionals throughout the Bay Area.  Val has also had the pleasure of working with Ken Fulk Designs, one of the top leading interior design and staging companies in the country.

Val is an Associate Producer of the San Francisco Fashion Week, a member of the Innovative Fashion Council of San Francisco, Icon Fashionista and San Francisco’s Design Project.  She has enjoyed her role as Performance Director for the Super Club with Nicole Presents and for the Alchemy and Crucible Fashion shows through her engagement with Missing Piece Productions.

Val has styled for numerous fashion shows, magazines, model agencies, films, music and dance videos, music artists and film festivals.  She is proud to have styled over 135 aspiring stars preparing for John Robert Powers IPOP (International Presentation of Performers) in Los Angles January 2008 and 2009.  These children were chosen by top movie agents in LA's premiere film industry for callbacks! She is also very proud to have worked with Ms. California 2007.

Val currently teaches Runway Model and Fashion Commercial Print at John Robert Powers and acts as a model coach for Missing Piece Productions and Nicole Presents.
