Every Moment Counts

"How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world." -- Anne Frank
How do you improve the world? I'm not asking you to save it or even to create world peace, because improvement comes in small steps. When you have a goal, you have something to work towards and even if the goal is larger than anything you could ever dream of accomplishing. If you break it up into small doable steps and do a little bit at a time, a small piece each day, with regularity and perseverance, you will improve and get closer to that goal. Marathon training is a good example. There's no way you could run a marathon without training and building up the stamina needed to run 26.2 miles in one session. The same applies to growing plants - they need regular watering a little at a time in order to grow healthy and strong.
So what's your goal for the world? What's your goal for you? Are you doing something to improve yourself? If you are, you are improving the world just by being kind to yourself, because you will be a happier person and better able to generate happiness and peace in others.
An old friend of mine used to say "Live everyday as if it were your last, because one day you're sure to be right," but I am more inclined towards the Corita Kent quote:
"Life is a succession of moments. To live each one is to succeed."
Thanks to George Kao for pointing me to that quote.
