Massage Class Raised $240 for San Francisco Center

Posted Aug 22, 2009 3:14 PM by Susan Barnes

On August 17th, Pablo Chamorro offered a Partners & Pairs Massage class which was both well attended and received.  Pablo taught the basics of Shiatsu massage to a very fun group of people who were eager to try all the moves on their partners.  My favorite quote of the evening was "Um....the scrotum is something different," said boyfriend to girlfriend as girlfriend referred to the sacrum as "the scrotum!" LOL.

The class was held to raise money for the San Francisco Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Community Center and through teaching the 3 hour class, Pablo raised $240 for the organization.  A big thank you to Pablo.

Classes for Causes is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to connecting people to raise money and awareness for causes through teaching and learning. Anyone can teach a class about anything they want and the money raised in tuition goes to the charity of the instructor's choice.

Teen Starts Kids Vs Global Warming Group

Posted Aug 12, 2009 8:02 AM by Susan Barnes

Just read this story about Alec, a 14 year old who has started a group to build awareness about Global Warming for kids and he is making great progress.  Not only does he have 2,000 followers, a bright future in public speaking, a nonprofit and an appealing website, he has also met with Al Gore five times and his passion for his cause is palpable.

See more videos here.

Thank you Alec, we need more people just like you to educate people about what they can do to save our planet.

$64 raised for Symphony Parnassus

Posted Aug 7, 2009 5:06 PM by Susan Barnes

The Marketing with Search Engines class a couple of weeks ago went well and even though there were just two students, I think they enjoyed the class and got a lot out of it.  In smaller classes you definitely get more individual attention and there is plenty of time for questions and sharing idea.  We raised $64 for Symphony Parnassus and $16 for Classes for Causes, and what's more we had fun in the process.

What do you want to teach and raise money for?

Every Moment Counts

Posted Aug 6, 2009 12:00 AM by Susan Barnes

"How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world." -- Anne Frank

How do you improve the world?  I'm not asking you to save it or even to create world peace, because improvement comes in small steps.  When you have a goal, you have something to work towards and even if the goal is larger than anything you could ever dream of accomplishing.  If you break it up into small doable steps and do a little bit at a time, a small piece each day, with regularity and perseverance, you will improve and get closer to that goal.  Marathon training is a good example.  There's no way you could run a marathon without training and building up the stamina needed to run 26.2 miles in one session.  The same applies to growing plants - they need regular watering a little at a time in order to grow healthy and strong.

So what's your goal for the world?  What's your goal for you?  Are you doing something to improve yourself?  If you are, you are improving the world just by being kind to yourself, because you will be a happier person and better able to generate happiness and peace in others.

An old friend of mine used to say "Live everyday as if it were your last, because one day you're sure to be right," but I am more inclined towards the Corita Kent quote:

"Life is a succession of moments. To live each one is to succeed."

Thanks to George Kao for pointing me to that quote.
