We're very pleased to announce the Tea Ceremony: Tea & Chocolate Pairing class happening on Thursday, July 29th. The class will be taught by Winifred Chang of SHiMONEi and hosted by our friends Shaun and Dominik at Schoggi Swiss Chocolate on San Francisco's Yerba Buena Lane (near 5th Street @ Mission).
Come and learn the traditions of the Chinese tea ceremony and how it has evolved over time. You will participate in pairings of luxuious Oolong tea with delicious swiss chocolate and come away feeling educated, uplifted and energized.
We're honored to partner with Winifred and SHiMONEi to offer this class. Winifred says "SHiMONEi means appreciation" and she started her business in order to be able to say thank you to the world and give back to the community. 80% of the money raised from this class will benefit the WELL Network which is a women-led, nonpartisan, nonprofit membership organization concerned about the health of the environment and its connection to the health of our children and families.
In working with Winifred to prepare this class I know she is every bit as passionate about giving back as she is to her tea and I'm sure that you'll have a fantastic experience in her class.

We are very pleased to announce that Cariwyl Hebert has joined the Classes for Causes Board of Directors. Cariwyl is a seasoned grant writer and is in the midst of starting Salon97.org, which makes classical music accessible to the 97% of the population who don't yet "get" it. I love the concept and am thrilled to have Cariwyl on our Board. In addition to her grant writing experience, Cariwyl has produced a number of events and her event planning expertise will be a huge asset to the Classes for Causes team.
If you want to see Cariwyl in action, come to Salon 97 this Thursday (June 17th) at Citizen Space for an adventure into Summer-themed (classical) music. There will be plenty of beverages and time to unwind while learning more about the wonders of classical music.

I'll be there, so come find me for an in person chat. Hope to see you there!
Tonight I attended a Linchpin Meetup thoughtfully organized and hosted by Jay Bergers III in San Francisco and gave a 1 minute presentation about Classes for Causes. Thanks to Kate who encouraged me to go and pushed me to do the mini-presentation. There's something about having a time limit and talking to a bunch of strangers that is very different from teaching. I think I was more nervous than I've been in a long time and that felt really good.
The event was well organized, fun, and most of all inspirational! Wow! There were so many people with wonderful ideas and people who really put the P in Passion! What a way to kick off a week.
Thanks to everyone I talked with, including David Hood (a walking Robin Hood of connecting people to collaborate and do something good), the Tresa Eyres of the LoveLetterSquad who wants to give a workshop on Love Letter Writing with Classes for Causes (Doesn't that sounds amazing?), Mike who is interested in Astro Photography and Kelly Allen who is a budding artist with a small studio in the Mission soon to be a large live work space in SoMa!
For someone who works from home and has recently become somewhat a recluse in my "day job," this night out was just the kick in the a** I needed. I can't wait to start the next chapter in Classes for Causes.
Yun Lee of BEATZ taught a full class of people about the art of DJing, and it was lots of fun. Now I want to buy a couple of turn tables and a mixer too! The Intro to DJing Seminar raised money for a scholarship fund in honor of a BEATZ student who was killed in a violent crime last year.
We'll be offering another class on February 25, 2010, so if you missed this one, please register for that one soon. The class size is limited so that people can have hands on experience. Tell your friends and come and learn the basics of DJing. Yun Lee is an excellent teacher - very laid back, fun and full of encouragement and patience. I'm sure everyone in the class last night would say they had a great time. Check out some picture below.
