How It Works
You're wondering how it works. We'll tell you briefly here, but please also take a look at the Frequently Asked Questions.
Our goal is to enable people to give back through teaching. Anyone can teach and everyone can learn.
Where are the classes held?
In your home, in your school, at your gym, your church, your recreation center, your neighborhood park and/or your office's conference room. If you need a more formal setting, we will be happy to assist you with finding and booking a venue and the cost of tuition per student will be increased to cover the cost of the space.
Interested in teaching?
1) You sign up to teach a class and enter the details, including the date, time and a description of the class on this site.
2) You let us know a little about you and you choose a cause to which you will be donating the tuition from students who sign up to teach the class.
3) If you are donating your time through teaching to a non-profit organization, you may receive a tax deduction for 80% of the tuition money from students (less any expenses required for renting a space or materials.) The other 20% goes to operating Classes for Causes and marketing all the classes. We have not yet received 501(c)3 status, so the 20% is not yet tax deductible.
Coming to learn?
1) You sign up for a class and meet with other people who are interested in learning from inspiring teachers who are working to change the world.
2) Available classes include everything from Creating Your Own Ringtones to Women's Endocrinology, from Beginning Birdwatching to Road Running, from Knitting to Gourmet Cooking and everything in between.
3) Since you are receiving a service, i.e. being taught, there is no tax deduction available for your tuition. You may certainly choose to donate a little extra though and that will be tax deductible.
